An Introduction to Cooking with Bunya Nuts

Have you ever wondered how to extract edible food from an intact, multi-kilo Bunya pine (Araucaria bidwillii) cone? Come and join Janet Webb as she takes us on a journey to discover some of the secrets to harvest, prepare and cook the nuts (seeds) from this iconic and very important food tree. You will help break open a cone (if we have any cones that are still intact), shuck, boil and extract the nuts, ready for incorporating into your favourite dish. Janet will introduce participants to the gustatory delight of her renowned bunya nut pesto, after demonstrating it's preparation. Bring along a small jar so you can take some home!
